I am excited to be taking a few of my High Skool students to Impact 2008 in Ocean City, Maryland this evening.
It is my prayer that the Lord would work powerfully in the lives of everyone at the conference, and that He would also speak vividly to each of my students throughout the weekend. This will be the first time that we have attended this conference, but we are expecting big things…

So… I got a totally random phone call on Wednesday the 12th from some guy named Phil from some company called Aquasis. Phil had discovered my info online and was contacting me because he needed me to hook him up with one of my high skool students who could help him display some signage at a little concert that they were sponsoring in Salisbury.
I said that I would make a few calls and find him a responsible student who could partner with his company to hang a some signs before the show, and then take them down afterwards. It just so happens that the little concert actually turned out to be a national tour that is headlined by a little band called Casting Crowns. The tour also featured one of my favorite bands right now… Leeland.
In the end, Mitchell Melton literally “jumped” at the opportunity to help Phil and the good people of Aquasis… and in return he got a sweet-action backstage pass… and the Weavers got a pair of tickets to catch the show from some great seats at the Wicomico Civic Center. In the process, we were able to hang out with several of our students who were also attending the show with their families.
In my research since the show, I have discovered that Aquasis is a great ministry (and much more than the hookup for free tickets and backstage passes… hahaa) that is partnering with World Vision to install water wells in third world countries all over the world. You can check out their vision for reaching the world with the Message of Christ’s love by first providing them with clean drinking water by watching this video.
It is our plan to begin carrying Aquasis water in our AM/SM Lounge because I believe in the mission of World Vision… and now I believe in the mission of Aquasis.
This a pic of the Aquasis signage outside the Civic Center.
This is a view from inside the show… Mark Hall rockin the mic.

A candid moment with Tyler Ringer at the show.

As Amanda shared yesterday in her Easter 2008 blog, we decided to begin a new tradition of escaping to the movies on Easter Sunday. The best (and only) animated option available to us at the good ole Salisbury Regal Cinema was “Horton Hears a Who“.
Overall, the film was hilarious and very fun. Ryland was captivated from the very first preview… and he fought to stay behind in order to watch the credits roll in an emptied theater.
The most enjoyable moment for Amanda and I was when Chico learned a new “b” word from Horton and his friends. Here’s how the scene played out…
In the film, the Mayor of Whoville (voiced by Steve Carell of “The Office” fame) is dramatically called a “boooooob” by the Chairman of the Whoville City Council. At this point in the movie, Chico was sitting in my lap with an expression of utter mesmerization. But as soon as that line was delivered with dramatic emphasis, Chico smiled at the screen and then said… mimicking the inflection of the evil Chairman… “boooooob”.
We startled him with our laughter… but then Chico looked up at us… smiled… and said “boooob!!!”
The “b” word was repeated numerous times from that point forward in the film… and Ryland was faithful to follow each instance with his mesmerized repetition of the phrase.
So… to all I say… Happy Easter… and… BOOOOOOB!

This Easter has been a lot of fun for this Weaver crew. As we have decided would be our tradition, we do our Easter festivities on the Saturday before Easter. Yesterday when Chico woke up he got his Easter Basket and present (a little tykes adjust & jam basketball goal with breakaway rim), and we did his indoor egg hunt. He decided to come dressed as Batman thanks to Nana. So we had a little caped super hero running around too fast to get clear pictures. After our pancake breakfast we headed out to Allen for the 4,000 + egg hunt. There were loads of people there. Sonja, our interim Children’s said, we had 140 kids there (that of course does not include the parents, grandparents, and workers). My boys were a bit overwhelmed by the sardine like feeling, but it was fun. We spent the rest of the day hangin’ out watchin’ the madness and shootin’ hoops in our living room. Ryland ended the day by eating a See’s Chocolate Bunny (thanks again to Nana ; ). It was the first time he had been given chockee (rylandism #154). It was a wonderful day!
Of course this morning (3/23) we did church. We had a little over 600 in attendance… what a crew. It was very exciting to see our church bustin’ at the seems. Lots of first time visitors, and of course some who hadn’t been for a while.
Today we are going to start the tradition of taking our “kids” to a movie on Easter Sunday. We are going to the 6:30 showing of “Horton Hears a Who!” This will be our first time to take Ryland to a movie (we’re not counting the few he slept threw back in the day). We will see how it goes, but it seems my boy has that inevitable “tunnel tv vision/hearing” already. Is this a boy thing? Ryan and I both remember our “little brothers” doing the same thing. Anyway… I am pretty sure he’ll do fine since he is napping it up as I write. I think he will enjoy the Dr Seuss classic.
Happy Easter to All!
Press On!!!
Ryan, Amanda, and Ryland
Look What I Found!
Counting… NNNN, TYOOO, TREE

AM/SM hosted a spring break concert last Wednesday in Studio 7o7 that featured two excellent local bands. The Stand (a band from The Tabernacle in Pittsville, Maryland) opened the show with some intense worship and Death By Sunday (a band that I have blogged about recently which features three of my students) closed the nite with some head-rattling rock.
Here are some photos of the evening…

It has been no secret that Chico rarely allows us to accessorize him with hats and the such. When he is in one of these rare moods… we take full advantage by allowing him to pick his hat of choice. Sometimes he chooses predictably by grabbing the OU cap that his Uncle Willy and Aunt Jo bought him for Christmas… and sometimes he goes for one of the random hats that we have collected (some through generous gifts and others through Amanda’s uncanny sense of “style”… hahahaaa). Sunglasses almost never make the cut… but this may be changing now that we are a little more able to convince him of the benefits of less sunlight in his eyes while we are cruisin in the Jeep.
Here are a couple of pics that we have snapped in the last week while he was in one of these RARE accessorization moods…

Ryland and Amanda surprised me on Sunday afternoon with a copy of the newly released Smash Bros. Brawl for the Wii. I never get games when they first release! We usually wait until they come out in the used section at the game stores. So far… it has been money well-spent. One of the coolest features about the Wii version of Brawl is the ability to fight versus other via an online connection.
I have battled several of my students online over the last couple of days (shout-out to Caleb the Cowardly Lion and Mike the Drummer). Anyone else who has a Wii, a copy of Brawl, and a wifi connection… give me a shout so we can throw down in the near future.

I just received the following update from the Skit Guys about their Southwest Airlines commercial:
“Be sure to tune in to TBS on March 16th at 8PM (ET/PT) for World’s Funniest Commercials: Hilarious Liasons to see our national commercial join the ranks among some of the funniest on television.”
The SWA commercial first aired during the 2007 NBA Playoffs when the Skit Guys submitted it to the Southwest Airlines Commercial Contest. You can also check out a preview of the video (which is called “Out On A Limb”) at youtube by clicking here. Amanda has already set the Weaver-DVR to record this Sunday nite…

A few days ago, I blogged about my excitement concerning the premier of The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian. I just got my second email from Interlinc (the amazing music and media source for youthworkers) about Prince Caspian and in this dispatch they provided some sweet-action behind the scenes vids and interviews… and they encouraged current Narnia Insiders to share the wealth. So… that’s what I’ve decided to do!
If you are a youthworker, a student, a parent, or a just-plain-Narnia-fan… click out this link to sign up to become a Narnia Insider.
If you are one of my AM/SM students or AM/SM volunteers… start brainstorming with me on how we can make this premier on May 16th a fun priority for our Student Ministry. Comment here on my blog (or email me) about some of your ideas on how to make the most of this opportunity.
