.: baptists gettin’ jiggy with it…

Tonight Ryan and I had the delight of dancing the night away. No, we were not trying out the local club scene, and we weren’t chaperoning a prom. We were at Allen Memorial Baptist Church’s annual Spring Fling dance. That’s right folks the baptists had a dance.
It is so refreshing to be a part of a church who believes that we aren’t limited to board games, and softball teams for having fun together. Our pastor, Bill Warren, got out there and did the twist with the best of ‘em. We danced to Elvis, The Rolling Stones, Frank Sinatra, and even some Lynard Skynard. It was just a great evening of fun.
I am looking forward to next years dance. Knowing more people will make it even easier to get out there and cut a little rug. Ryan and I were both a little apprehensive as the night began, because we didn’t know what to expect or how people would react. But after having such fun tonight, I fully expect that next year Ryan will feel free to do his “Weaver white boy dance.”
I truly believe that it brings pleasure to the heart of God when He sees His children enjoying each other. I have no doubt that we honor Him when we romance our mates and invest in our marriages. I am also reminded that David danced before the Lord as an act of worship. All of these things happened tonight in the lives of those who attended AMBC’s dance. How unfortunate that thousands of baptists (and other Protestant-types) avoid this form of fellowship in order to feed their desire for piety and religious-rule-keeping.

Great thoughts my love. I was most shocked by the inter-generational fellowship that occurred as people threw away their “fear of the evil seductive powers of pubilc gyrations” and “fear of the evils of secular sound”. It is a shame that I had to wait 26 years to experience my first “Baptist Dance”…

The two of you look great, and I say AMEN to Baptist’s having a little fun and getting outside their comfort zone even if it is just for one night a year. I think it’s great.

WHAT!!! Say it ain’t so!?!?! Dancing! What is next?!?!? HA!
That is awesome! Ryan please tell me you did not do the infamous “underwear dance”! Also one of the funniest comments I ever heard was a man saying what he understood about all denominations and when he go to Baptist he said, “They don’t believe in pre-marital sex because it might lead to dancing!”

Funny stuff from all three of you! Thanks for the comments, recommendations, support, and counseling. We will work hard (with every pharisee-ical bone in our bodies) to stand firm on this slippery slope…

Amanda, do you remember how it is that a praying knee can be connected to a dancing foot? By the fatted calf. Your father always thought that was a funny joke. Kinda, huh?
You guys look good. It is a picture of a very happy couple.
Forever!

Incredible! Of course, I had to hear about it from Pops before I read it on the blog. I think he’s got a little more time on his hands than I do!!! I tried to teach Pops to dance once in our garage - I don’t think he’d ever do it in public, though. I say “Whopee!” and have fun!

We had some good friends in Grand Prarie that tried to teach us the two step but we failed. By the way he was a deacon in a Baptist church. I think my problem was that I was afraid your pa-pa (my dad and Ryan’s great-grandad) was watching me from heaven and he was totally against dancin’.

Ahhhhhhh! I think I was at prom the same night yall were dancing away…..baptist style(please not that Baptist style is NOT classified as an actual dance…..even though many people still dance like that today!) And if I recall….our little party was full of lets just say the opposite of Baptist dancing! And just for the record….Anjelica and I did not join this “fun.” I was to busy watching Anjelica gamble at the Blackjack table! I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone play Blackjack as well as she did……even though she had no idea what she was doing, she won like crazy! Too bad it wasn’t real money!

You two look wonderful and comfortable dancing together. I think that it’s great you can ‘cut a rug’ with your fellow Baptists and not have to feel guilty! Go Allen Memorial!
