.: and some folks say he’s up there still…

There was a classic movie on the tube today that provided some excellent father-son bonding for Rylz and I… “Jeremiah Johnson”.
It’s a classic flick that celebrates the wild-ness of men… and plays on the desperation for adventure and exploration and freedom that has been implanted in the heart of all humanity. This appeal is thick throughout the script… even up to the last line… which served as the inspiration for the title of this blog.
In the midst of an abnormally busy Saturday (which provided an opportunity for me to catch my first Lacrosse game as I watched one of my students named Ragan Ringer run around with her field hockey stick named “Wilma”…) I was flipping through the dish channels, seeking a soundtrack for some wrestle-time with Rylz (while Amanda was catching her first muscial on the Eastern Shore that featured another of our students… Mitchell Melton as Nibs in Peter Pan… and then practicing with the AMBC Drama Team for a skit that they are performing tomorrow).
Flipping through the Backyardigans’ and Veggie Tales’ and Aqua Teen Hunger Force’s and the myriad of solid NCAA hoops action… I was caught off guard by seeing “Jeremiah Johnson” as an optoin to add to the list. My mind spun back to memories of watching Robert Redford fight to survive the wilderness of the Rocky Mountains with my Pops (on repeated occasions) as we wrestled on the floor and dreamed of adventures like Jeremiah’s.
So I stopped on the channel… and re-lived the same interaction with my son.
Chico and I watched every moment of Jeremiah’s epic struggle together… and we wrestled… and we laughed… and we talked about the unknown journeys that he and I will take together… and we dreamed about the unexpected adventures that Abba Father will unveil…
…after Chico learns to walk.

I think Jeremiah Johnson could have picked a better bracket and basketball wasn’t even invented yet.
You may get it right in the end if UCLA wins but looking at the Swiss Cheese you call a bracket I would have to say even a blind squirrel finds a nut now and then.
It sucks because points wise I will probably win the bracket group but since you picked UCLA (if they win) I will never hear the end of it.
It will be a hollow win for me because I didn’t pick the #1, it will be a hollow win for you because you got lucky.
me:
32/26 16/12 8/7 4/3
you:
32/22 16/7 8/5 4/3
I picked a total of 11 more winners than you.
Of course according to biblical standards we are both false prophets because we would have to be 100% accurate.

McStanky…
You got nuthin on my bracket. Who’s to say that the 3 minutes I took picking that bracket will not turn into greatness when UCLA pulls it out. I am not alone when I say… BILL SELF IS A CHOKER (hardcore)! Why would anyone choose Kansas to move to any title game anywhere as long as Self is the leader of that team???
Oh yeah… you.
Anywho… back to Jeremiah Johnson… and my bonding time with my boy…

I have reviewed your blogs postings and I feel that this is of no importance to my supervisor, Mr. Schofield. He has more important business that he must attend to daily. So, as far as any further blogging, unless it is pertaining to the complexities of forest management, DO NOT BOTHER my supervisor or you will be reported to the AMBC IT blogging specialist, Mr. Pat Powers. He does not take any nonsense and will unplug your blog immediately upon notice.

But the absolutely best quote of the movie is,”What you need is a full time night woman!”

Pops…
Yes you are correct. That’s gotta be the most memorable quote from the flick…
“Full time night woman? I never could find no tracks on a woman’s heart.”
Can’t include the rest of the quote because good ole Del Gue goes on quite a ramble with many-a-curse-word. I’m glad I found me a “full-time night woman”.
Can I get an “AMEN”?
